The GI services performed in our Surgery & Outpatient Procedures Department include colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and flexible sigmoidoscopies. Approximately 2,300 colonoscopies are performed at Aspirus Riverview Hospital each year. Colonoscopy detects growths (polyps) on the inside wall of your colon that may become cancerous. Having these polyps removed may reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States.
Our five surgery suites are modern, spacious and equipped with the most state-of-the-art technology available. We also have a gastrointestinal area with two procedure rooms and a six-bed recovery area.
Patients are treated by our staff of general and specialty surgeons and a surgical team that specializes in caring for them before, during and after surgery.
All staff members are certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Registered nurses who staff the recovery room are certified in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). The operating room is a clinical site for the Mid-State Technical College's Operating Room Technician program and Associate Degree in Nursing program.
Please preregister with Aspirus Riverview Hospital at least 48 hours before your surgery by calling 715.421.7499. Preregistration allows us time to prepare a care plan specific to your needs. It also allows the anesthesiologist time to review your records to determine whether further testing is needed before your procedure.
On the day of your procedure, please park under the Aspirus Riverview Tower and enter the hospital through the Emergency entrance. The registration clerk will direct you to the Surgery & Outpatient Procedures Department.
You will NOT be allowed to drive yourself home if you received any sedation or anesthesia during your procedure. You will be required to have an adult (someone 18 years or older) drive you home. Please make arrangements for your ride home before arriving for your procedure. In addition, it is preferable to have an adult with you at the hospital throughout your stay. You will also need someone to stay with you for 24 hours following your procedure.
