Beaker lab module for Epic; order set standardization

Go Live: February 27, 2022

Beaker

Beaker is Epic’s lab module. It is being integrated into Aspirus Health's Epic EMR because we currently have 68 labs in our clinics and hospitals that currently require 171 interfaces, enter/edit workflows and scanning to make lab results available in the patient’s chart in Epic.

Beaker will simplify all this and allow us to provide better patient care by integrating with the Epic suite of applications, streamlining interfaces, and allowing the laboratory to expand its outreach business.

Refer to the Aspirus intranet for additional Beaker information.

Order Set Standardization

Because the move to Beaker impacts several workflows and interfaces, we have also aligned the go-live of our order set standardization project to coincide with Beaker and minimize potential disruption associated with the changes for providers and practices.

Standardization impacts all inpatient and emergency department order sets system-wide to establish consistency, meet regulatory requirements, and ensure order set designs are centered on decision support and evidence-based content. Any order set variation will be based on optimal care delivery, not personal preference.

Beginning Sunday, February 27, standardized order sets will replace location or physician-specific order sets and previously saved user preferences in Epic. A crosswalk of new and old order sets will be communicated prior to go-live to help provide additional context and understanding around the new order sets.

Submit a ServiceNow request if you would like to request an order set change or have a new one created. You can also reach out to ordersetreview@aspirus.org with any questions or concerns.
