5 Conditions Women Don’t Talk About

Many women over 40 experience gynecologic symptoms for the first time that are embarrassing to discuss. These are problems even our mothers didn’t talk about. It’s time to break the silence – women facing these conditions are not alone, and there are effective treatments we can help with.

  • Sexual health – lack of desire, loss of pleasure, vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse
  • Painful intercourse – pain during or after sex can take away from enjoyment and can lead to relationship problems
  • Urinary or bowel leakage – involuntary leakage that can occur with sudden movements such as coughing, sneezing, laughing or standing up
  • Reproductive organs dropping and/or vaginal pain or pressure – the most common symptoms include vaginal pressure or pain, lower back pain, discomfort in the pelvic area and involuntary loss of urine or bowel contents
  • Abnormal menstrual bleeding – Extra heavy bleeding or prolonged periods of more than seven days account for 5 percent of gynecologic visits by women in their 30s and 40s.

Osteoporosis Screening and Treatment

Eighty percent of the 25 million Americans who have osteoporosis are women. Women of all ages need to guard against osteoporosis as bone loss occurs as bones weaken with age.

  • 70 percent of all fractures in people over the age of 45 are due to osteoporosis
  • Bone density scans can diagnose osteoporosis
  • Treatment plans include diet and lifestyle changes, supplements, and medications
  • Stepping On is an important community resource for preventing falls

Talk with your doctor about your risk. If you need help finding a personal physician, look online, or call the Aspirus Customer Contact Center at 800-847-4707.
