Pediatric Cardiology

Integrated Pediatric Cardiac Services

At Aspirus Heart Care, we partner with pediatric and adolescent medicine specialists from the University of Wisconsin’s American Family Children’s Hospital to provide a broad range of services to children, from birth to 18 years of age and through adulthood for congenital heart disease.

By collaborating closely, we are able to provide the best care possible for your child, as they transition to adult health care. This continuum of care allows for safer and better well-care services for both patient and physician.

Specialty Clinics

In partnership with the University of Wisconsin’s American Family Children’s Hospital pediatric cardiology specialists, we provide access to the following specialty clinics:

  • Pediatric Cardiology Clinic – The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic is staffed by board-certified Pediatric Cardiologists serving as Aspirus Heart Care's consulting staff. They hold primary faculty appointments at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and are on staff at the American Family Children's Hospital in Madison. They bring expertise in caring for infants and children with congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, and acquired heart conditions. Physician referral is required for these services.
  • Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Clinic – We welcome referrals for evaluation in the Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Clinic (PPCC) if the patient:
    • Has documented dyslipidemia, diagnosed by fasting lipid panel
    • Uses tobacco and desires to quit
    • Has other cardiovascular risk factors that are concerning to you or the child’s parents
  • ACHD - Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic – As more patients with congenital heart disease have grown to adulthood, there have been significant advances in diagnosis and treatment for patients of all ages. Minimally invasive therapies, such as transcatheter valves and surgical innovations have significantly broadened patients’ treatment options.

Our multidisciplinary team welcomes the opportunity to work closely with the patient’s primary provider to meet the medical, surgical, obstetrical and social needs of the patient.

Should patients need care beyond our clinic in Wausau, the following resources are available in Madison:

  • Our highly skilled surgeons have years of training and experience in caring for patients with ACHD.
  • Accomplished MRI technicians with the resources and skills to precisely pinpoint heart abnormalities mean fewer diagnostic catheterizations, more precise diagnoses and lower costs for patients and their insurers.
  • Research on congenital heart disease has been an integral part of our program and care for 25 years.
