Aspirus At Home - Michigan Volunteers
Volunteer Program & Services
Volunteers for Aspirus At Home may provide support and respite care at the home of individuals and families receiving hospice care. A hospice volunteer is always mindful of and respectful of patient privacy and confidentiality.
Some examples of duties our volunteers perform include:
- Visiting with patients
- Reading to patients
- Writing letters for patients
- Listening to music with patients
- Shopping
- Performing household duties
- Allowing family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, and just have some time away from home.
- Volunteers with clerical skills can serve by helping in the office with simple administrative tasks.
- Trained volunteers may also facilitate grief support groups.
Additional Volunteer Services
- Attend calling hours, wakes or funerals
- Provide phone or home visits to the bereaved
- Audio Storytelling - Volunteers can assist patients in telling their life story. They listen and put these stories into written transcripts or audio recordings which can be given to the family as a final gift.
- Teddy Bear Care - Volunteers can make bears from a favorite piece of clothing belonging to their loved one. The bear is then given to the family as a final gift and remembrance.
