Botox is a non-invasive, low impact treatment for wrinkles and fine lines.
How does Botox work?
Botox blocks signals from the nerve to the muscles. This keeps the muscle from contracting and makes wrinkles relax and soften.
What is the treatment like and how long does it take?
- Botox treatments are performed in the office.
- Anesthesia and numbing agents are not needed.
- Using a very small needle, the Botox will be injected into the muscles. You will only experience a mild amount of discomfort during the injection.
- The treatment takes only a matter of minutes.
What to do before and after a Botox injection.
- Avoid alcohol starting at least one week before the procedure.
- Stop taking aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory medications two weeks before the treatment to help prevent bruising.
- You may be told not to lie down for four hours after receiving Botox and should take the day off from working out.
- You should also avoid rubbing the injection site(s) for at least 24 hours so that the Botox remains in place.
How long does Botox last?
The effects of Botox will last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. As the muscle is slowly able to contract again, lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear. Continued Botox treatments will result in lines and wrinkles appearing less severe because the muscles will shrink over time.
Cosmetic Fillers
Cosmetic fillers are injected under the skin to make it fuller. The added fullness helps reduce wrinkles and gives you a more youthful appearance.
The fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid which is a natural sugar found in your body. As you age, you produce less of it. Hyaluronic acid helps add volume and a smoother appearance to the skin.
What are the different types cosmetic fillers?
- JuvedermXC is a dermal filler that will provide 9 to 12 months of correction for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds.
- Juviderm Ultra Plus XC is used to lift folds and wrinkles that are more deeply embedded in the face, cheeks, and nasal labial area. Results may last up to 18 months.
- VollureXC is designed to instantly add subtle volume to facial wrinkles and folds. Results can last up to 18 months.
- VobellaXC is used to add subtle volume to your lips and soften the appearance of vertical lines above the lips. The results will last up to 12 months.
- VolumaXC is used to add volume in the midface, such as the checks. It can also used to fill under eye hollowness. Results can last up to two years.
What is the treatment like and how long does it take?
- Cosmetic filler treatments are performed in the office
- The cosmetic fillers used at Aspirus Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are mixed with lidocaine, numbing agent, making the injection more comfortable.
- Sometimes a topical numbing agent may be used on more sensitive areas of the face.
- The treatment generally lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
What to do before and after a cosmetic filler injection.
- Avoid alcohol starting at least one week before the procedure.
- Stop taking aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory medications two weeks before the treatment to help prevent bruising.
- Apply ice after the treatment to help diminish swelling and bruising.
- Take the day off from exercising.
- Stay hydrated.
Kybella
Kybella is an FDA approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin, resulting in a noticeable reduction in the fullness under the chin. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer store and accumulate fat, so the results are permanent.
It may take more than one treatment depending on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired result.
Reasons to consider Kybella
- You are self-conscious about the fat under your chin.
- You feel that the amount of fat under your chin makes you look older or heavier than you are.
- You don’t want surgery.
- You eat well and exercise, but the fullness under your chin will not go away.
What is the treatment like and how long does it take?
- Kybella is administered in the office.
- During the treatment, you will receive small injections under your chin.
- A topical numbing agent may be applied to make the treatment more comfortable.
- The injection process takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
What to do before and after a cosmetic filler injection.
- One week prior to your appointment, stop taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medication. Also discontinue use of and Omega-3 and Vitamin E supplements. You should continue these 3 days to 1 week after the treatment because they may increase bruising and swelling.
- Avoid alcohol and salt 24 hours before your appointment.
- Discontinue vigorous exercise for 3 to 5 days after treatment. Also avoid any exposure to excessive heat and sun.
- Apply ice or cold packs after your treatment.
- Apply warm compresses within a few days after your injections.
How long before I will see results?
Most people require more than one treatment to get their desired results. Our specialists at Aspirus Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will be able to discuss your treatment plan with you. In clinical studies, many people achieved visible results after two to four treatments.
Although Kybella is a non-surgical treatment, some common side effects include swelling, bruising and redness. These symptoms usually subside within one to two weeks.
