Mary Rotar Wins DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Congratulations to Mary Rotar, Registered Nurse in the post-anesthesia care unit of Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital. Mary is the winner of Aspirus Divine Savior's quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She was nominated by a grateful patient, who wrote:

I have hard veins to find. She took her time and let them pop up instead of just stabbing them like I've experienced at other hospitals. She showed me how the gown is supposed to be tied, because it was missing a strap. I admit I was in a state of, “Do whatever because I'm in a state of anxiety, so take over.” Mary took notice and gave me a warm blanket and put the heat tube on. She was so sweet and helpful. I was very nervous, and she helped calm my nerves by talking about my animals, interests, and my very long medical battle. She gave me some ideas to investigate like food allergy testing and to look into my heart rate spiking when I stand up and black out. She was just so kind and seemed to really care about me and my comfort. I've been in so many clinics, hospitals, and EDs over the past three years and have seen hundreds of nurses. She has been the best out of all of them. I wish all nurses had her kindness, compassion, empathy, and ability to read a patient’s body language. Thank you, Mary!

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding and extraordinary care nurses provide every day. Our DAISY Award winners and nominees exceed the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying the Aspirus core values of Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy. Aspirus Divine Savior's DAISY Award winners receive a pin and certificate, a statuette of “The Healer's Touch,” and a banner and cinnamon rolls for their unit.
