Friday is nationally
recognized as Mammogram Day, so this week is an ideal time to remind all women
aged 40 and over to set aside time for an annual mammogram.
Thankfully,
scheduling a mammogram is easier than ever. Aspirus Health offers online
scheduling at aspirus.org, on the MyAspirus app,
or by calling your preferred location.
Mammograms can
detect tumors that are still too tiny to feel, so cancer can be identified
before symptoms even start – giving women a crucial head start on finding
breast cancer early when treatment is often most effective.
Do mammograms really
need to be done annually? Yes. “Finding something small, even though it may be
cancer, is going to make the treatment process a lot of times a lot more
straightforward,” explains Dr. Cecilia Stroede, a Board-certified Breast
Surgeon at Aspirus Breast Care Specialists in Wausau.
Since one in eight
women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, the importance of
keeping up with annual mammograms can’t be overstated.
Aspirus offers
numerous interactive resources at aspirus.org/breast-care-mammography
including a risk assessment, direct scheduling options, online chat options,
and podcasts and interviews.
Aspirus further
believes no woman should miss a mammogram based on financial worries; they
offer free mammograms and breast-related diagnostic services for those with
cost concerns. For more information on how to qualify, call 800-847-4707 or
visit aspirus.org/free-mammograms.
