Public safety and
emergency medical treatment are two vital services for every community. The two
components also collaborate on a daily basis to ensure the well-being of our
communities.
Tuesday, January 9
is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It’s an opportunity to show
support and appreciation to law enforcement officers for their duty to the
community, such as their work in the Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) Emergency
Department.
Aspirus Wausau
Hospital (AHW) Emergency Department Manager Stephanie Dulak emphasizes the
importance of strong community partnerships. “It’s very common for us to have
police officers in the Emergency Department,” says Dulak. “Often they’re here
for very positive reasons and they help keep our staff and patients safe.”
Law enforcement
often goes beyond their traditional roles by serving as a vital resource for
the medical care team. They frequently provide intricate accident details or
share event photos that enables trauma teams to gain a comprehensive
understanding of the injuries sustained.
“Being able to
communicate and work well together allows for a patient to receive treatment
whether they’re a suspect or possibly dangerous,” says Lieutenant Jacob Albee
of the Wausau Police Department. “It allows patients to receive treatment
without the worry of staff being harmed or the person unable to receive
treatment.”
Ultimately, the
Wausau Police Department and the AWH Emergency Department have a common goal of
providing quality care to the members of the community.
“As police officers,
we’re there to help people,” says Lieutenant Albee. “Being able to work
together with partners such as the AWH ED staff allows us to make sure people
receive the medical treatment they need.”
