Dr. Sarah Hostetler Receives OME Compassion Award

The Aspirus Office of Medical Education (OME) is recognizing collaboration and contributions made by Aspirus Physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) as clinical teachers for medical students and advance practice clinician students.

This is the 3rd year that OME has recognized these efforts throughout the Aspirus system.

This year's Compassion Award went to Dermatologist Dr. Sarah Hostetler, Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

As a clinical teacher, this awardee exemplifies the heart of healer to their student(s); helps learners understand the role of a healer and recognize the privilege of caring for patients.

Here are a few things that some medical students said about Dr. Hostetler:

“Dr. Hostetler is a phenomenal teacher. Not only does she provide important clinical education on how to recognize, diagnose, and treat patients, but more importantly she also goes above and beyond to consistently demonstrate how to be a compassionate doctor. Her emphasis on always doing right by the patient and providing empathetic care is a valued part of instruction that is not always present within all clinical experiences.” –Medical Student

“Dr. Hostetler has truly been one of the most inspiring mentors I have had the privilege to learn from throughout my medical training. She specifically has made it her mission to spread positivity among her staff and patients she sees. She goes above and beyond to spread kindness with her patients and even created an award for patients who are spreading positivity in our community called the "Acts of Kindness Award." This small, but simple gesture, has been incredibly meaningful to patients. A truly special moment when a provider recognizes and acknowledges patients for the kindness they spread in our community. She motivates, inspires, and gives a sense of hope to every patient she cares for. I leave clinic every time feeling more inspired to be a better provider in my future career. Additionally, she has taken time during the pandemic to match incoming medical students with a "Covid Buddy" to mentor them during this difficult period. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than Dr. Hostetler.” –Medical Student
