What results can I expect?
The results come from a team approach---your health care team, your physical therapist, and you. The most important member of this team is you. You must be committed to performing your Pain Relieving Exercise Program regularly, maintaining pain relieving postures throughout the day and night, and retraining your trunk and neck muscles. After your course of treatment is completed, your physical therapist will provide you with an individually tailored prevention program to help you maintain your success.
How soon can I expect to see results?
The length of treatment will vary with each patient. Factors such as the severity of your existing conditions/symptoms and your level of commitment to the program will determine the number of sessions that are required.
What is the treatment?
This unique treatment focuses exclusively on the head and neck. At your first visit, you will be evaluated by a Physical Therapist who specializes in the treatment of head, neck and facial symptoms. After the evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed for your specific needs.
The plan will address four specific areas:
- Pain Relieving Exercise Program (PREP) – an individualized exercise program designed to decrease or eliminate symptoms when needed.
- Posture Correction – prescribed to keep your neck and head in pain relieving positions.
- Neuromuscular Re-education and Training – Trunk and neck muscles can be “retrained” to hold the head and neck in stress-relieving positions throughout the day.
- Education – you will be taught important information regarding cervical (neck) and head biomechanics, body mechanics and sleep positions. You will also learn how to perform typical daily activities while maintaining a protective cervical alignment.
Is this covered by insurance?
As with any medical service, it is recommended that you check with your health plan carrier directly prior to beginning treatment to determine if this therapy program is covered under your insurance plan.
