Newborn ICU (NICU)

Aspirus Health provides a Level III NICU at Aspirus Wausau Hospital to provide care to critically-ill and premature newborns (and give expectant parents peace of mind).

Our world-class NICU has the region’s only single-family room model for critically-ill babies. Single rooms mean parents can stay with their baby 24/7, allowing privacy with their baby and providing the opportunity to bond and participate in their care. It also provides flexibility to parents as they may need to leave and return again.

Features:

  • Neonatologists trained in specialized care for critically-ill babies
  • Private rooms (parents can stay with baby the first important bonding days after birth)
  • Special accommodations for twins and triplets
  • Amenities so parents can be with their newborn as much as possible
  • NICVIEW webcam system that offers secure real-time online viewing, promoting whole-family bonding

NICVIEW Webcam System

A webcam system, called NICVIEW, consists of a camera in every room of the NICU that is positioned over each baby. Families are given secure password that they can share with friends and family so they can see the baby from any location with an Internet connection.

Family Waiting Room

Premature and critically-ill babies may spend several days in the NICU. We support your family time here with:

  • TV
  • Fireplace
  • Children’s play area
  • Computers with Internet access
  • Kitchen area

Family Sleep Room

When newborns are in the NICU, mom and dad can use the family sleep room the night before their baby is discharged to gain comfort before going home together.

    NICU Hero Gift

New Yorkers Dan Bormolini and Steve Spates were so impressed with the care their adopted son T.J. received at Aspirus' Anya Marie Jackson Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that they made a $5,000 gift in honor of the NICU staff.
