Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital Receives WHA Quality and Patient Safety Award

(Stevens Point, WI)- Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital has been recognized by the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) for Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety as part of their 2025 Quality and Patient Safety Awards.
The Excellence in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety award recognizes hospitals committed to taking innovative steps to improve quality, patient safety and patient outcomes in Wisconsin.
Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital was recognized for its “Improving Mortality Index” project which measures the rate of deaths within a population. Research shows that improved mortality rates often lead to better health care infrastructure, emergency response systems and diseases control measures. It was selected in the General Medical Surgical Hospital category for facilities with 26-99 beds and was one of four hospitals recognized with WHA Patient Safety and Quality Awards this year.
“This project was identified to help us meet one of our strategic system performance pillars,” said Amanda Walloch, Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. “As an added bonus it also helped us improve our system-wide hospice referral process.”
WHA Quality and Patient Safety Award recipients were selected by a council of health care quality experts, who evaluated their innovative and impactful quality stories, as well as their top performance scores in their respective categories.
“We are grateful to be recognized with this honor, said Beth Sekerka, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. “We learned that improving our mortality index requires a multi-faceted team that achieved success by setting goals and having clear guiding principles that were frequently reviewed and supported by the clinical and leadership teams on many levels.”
