Keweenaw Health Foundation Supports Newly Established Keweenaw Youth Basketball League

The Keweenaw Health Foundation is proud to announce its support for the newly established Keweenaw Youth Basketball League, designed for students from Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade. This exciting league will run for six weeks, starting at the beginning of the school year and continuing through October, and will be hosted at Calumet, Laurium, Keweenaw Schools. This sponsorship will be used to help offset operational expenses and keep the cost of the league at a reasonable price.

The Keweenaw Youth Basketball League aims to foster community spirit and promote physical activity among young students. The league has already garnered enthusiastic participation from students across the local area, including those registered from as far as Chassell and Baraga.

“We are excited to offer this opportunity at Calumet Schools,” said Pat Dwyer, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Calumet Public Schools. “We deeply appreciate our dedicated volunteers and the support of the school administration for making this program possible.”

In previous years, families had to travel significant distances for their children to participate in similar programs.

“Thanks to a dedicated of a group of parents, community members, and sponsors like the Keweenaw Health Foundation, we now have the opportunity to host the league on this side of the bridge.” Said Amanda Willmert, Parent and League Organizer. “We are so excited to offer this program and gear up our youth athletes for future success.

This sponsorship aligns perfectly with the Keweenaw Health Foundation's mission to promote health and wellness in our community. By supporting this league, the Foundation helps to encourage physical activity, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among the area’s youth. Additionally, providing an accessible and affordable extracurricular activity contributes to the overall well-being of the community’s children.

"We believe in the importance of physical activity and teamwork for our youth. Supporting this league not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also strengthens our community by providing an accessible and enjoyable activity for our children."
