Think Healthy Eating Is Expensive? Think Again.
Aspirus Health Dietitian Debunks Myths on Registered Dietitian Day

Many people believe
eating healthy is costly or bland, but Lisa Miller,
a registered dietitian with Aspirus Health, is here to set the record
straight.
“One common
misconception I hear is that eating healthy costs more,” Miller says. “But when
you compare the price of a bag of carrots, bananas, or apples to a bag of
chips, the chips are usually more expensive.”
Another myth? That
nutritious food lacks flavor.
“If you only eat
things plain or raw, you might think healthy food is boring,” Miller says. “But
with a little creativity, healthy meals can be both delicious and satisfying.”
Today, March 12,
marks Registered Dietitian Day, recognizing the experts who help people make
informed food choices. Miller highlights three key elements of a well-balanced
diet:
- Balance – Getting
enough food is essential, especially for those facing food insecurity.
- Variety – A diverse
range of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains boosts nutrition.
“There are over 20
types of grains, not just wheat and corn,” Miller notes. “Mixing it up can
bring new flavors and nutrients into your diet.”
- Moderation – Setting
realistic, sustainable goals leads to long-term success. Small changes, such as
swapping processed foods for whole foods, adding healthy fats such as avocado
and nuts, and practicing portion control, can make a big difference.
“Healthy eating is
personal, and it’s about progress, not perfection,” Miller says.
On Registered
Dietitian Day, Aspirus Health encourages everyone to take small steps toward
healthier eating.
